A woman has been arrested after she reportedly abandoned three children at separate locations across the county on Monday.
Police say the woman identified as 36-year-old Miesha Perkins, abandoned an eight-year-old at a gas station on Okeechobee BLVD, before leaving a 3-year-old at a Publix in West Palm Beach, and a 1-year-old strapped in a car seat inside of a car in Palm Beach.
Employees at the gas station witnessed the woman abandon the child and gave authorities a description of the vehicle. Police then received a second call about a three-year-old who was abandoned at a Publix by a woman fitting the same description.
Authorities were able to track down the vehicle and witnessed Perkins walking away. When authorities looked inside the vehicle, they found a one-year-old strapped inside a car seat.
While questioning Perkins, authorities learned that Perkins had been traveling from Louisiana with the children and their father and that at some point during the trip, the children’s father was removed from the vehicle.
While many of the details surrounding the case are not yet known, officials are reporting that the children did not belong to Perkins and that mental illness may have played a part in the incident.
All three children have been placed in the care of the Department of Children and Families.
Palm Beach Police, the West Palm Beach Police department, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are all currently handling the case.
