Woman dies after being struck by scrap metal while driving

The Southfield Police Department is reporting that a 29-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a piece of flying scrap metal while driving.

The incident was reported on Thursday around 12:15 p.m.

According to the report, the victim was traveling along the same road as a tractor trailer that was transporting scrap metal. At some point the trailer became dislodged and sent pieces of the material flying in the air.

The woman who was not identified, was struck by one of the pieces in the head.

She was taken to an area hospital with “serious head trauma,” were she reportedly died.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
