(BROWARD COUNTY) — Police in Miami have arrested the stepmother of a teen who was fatally shot inside of their Pembroke Pines home.
24-year-old Francy Marcos of Miami Gardens was taken into custody on Tuesday for the death of 15-year-old Achilles Lopez.
Police say Marcos was handling a gun inside of the home on June 11th, when it went off and struck Lopez.
He was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.
Marcos told police that she was unaware that the gun was loaded and that there was a bullet in the chamber when she pointed the gun in the teen’s direction.
A friend of the victim told reporters that he was at the home just moments before the shooting occurred but briefly walked outside because he was fearful of how Marcos was handling the gun.
She kept playing,” he told reporters. “Pointed the gun at me, at the dog, at Achilles.”
When the friend heard the gun go off, he ran back into the home to find his friend lying on the ground.
Marcos was taken into custody at the Broward Main Jail but has since bonded out.
She faces a felony charge of manslaughter with a firearm.
