HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio–

A woman is facing child abuse charges after she was caught allowing a 6-year-old in her care to drink Smirnoff.

The incident occurred at a Marathon gas station Friday night.

A gas station employee contacted the police after witnessing the child drinking the beer while walking throughout the store.

When the employee asked the child if he realized he was drinking a beer, the child reportedly confirmed that he did:

“I said, ‘Do you know that you’re drinking a beer?’ And he said, ‘Yup, this is me and my mommy’s favorite beer. We drink it all the time,’” Olivia Eversole said.

Eversole was able to keep the child busy in the store while waiting on authorities to arrive.

When officials spoke to the child’s guardian Victoria Hampton, Hampton told them that it was an accident that the child was drinking the beer.

Authorities went to the home the next day to follow up on the incident, and found the same child outside on a bike with another Smirnoff in his hand.

Hampton was taken into custody for child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

It is unclear if she is the mother of the child.
