A woman was taken into police custody after she reportedly used bear spray at a 4th of July event.
The incident was reported around 9:19 p.m. at the Central Park Baseball Stadium in Trinidad, Colorado.
The Trinidad Police Department says they began receiving phone calls about people being pepper-sprayed at the stadium and arrived to find several injured people.
Investigators eventually identified the suspect as Korie Howlett and found her still armed with a can of bear spray.
When authorities spoke to Howlett, she told them she had the bear spray due to an unrelated event that involved her ex-boyfriend stalking her.
“unrelated incident that involved stalking between her and an ex-boyfriend and she only had the spray to defend herself,”
Witnesses told police that Howlett appeared to be under the influence and was shouting obscenities. They then told her to stop or to leave, and that’s when she started spraying the bear spray.
Howlett was taken into custody and is now facing one count of attempted assault in the second degree, five counts of assault in the third degree, one count of child abuse, and disorderly conduct.
