(CHICAGO, IL) –A 36-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly killed and dismembered her landlord after she was served an eviction notice.
Sandra Kolalou was taken into custody earlier this week on charges of first-degree murder, concealing a homicidal death, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the death of 69-year-old Frances Walker.
Authorities say they were contacted to conduct a welfare check at Walker’s home in the 5900-block of North Washtenaw Avenue Tuesday after two other tenants heard a commotion and a woman’s screams the night before.
The tenants explained that they were concerned for their landlord’s safety after not seeing her following the incident and receiving several text messages from her phone putting Kolalou in charge.
According to the report, the victim was known to house women who needed shelter but was in the process of evicting Kolalou due to several long-standing issues between them.
During the welfare check authorities encountered Kolalou, however, Kolalou refused to speak with them and left the home in a tow truck.
Authorities would later discover that Kolalou used Walker’s credit card to purchase the tow truck.
When authorities went inside the home, they discovered a woman’s body cut up and stuffed into a freezer. The remains were later identified as belonging to Walker. Officials also noticed blood in the bedroom, and on knives in both the victim’s and Kolalou’s rooms. They also found the victim’s phone in Kolalou’s room.
“They eventually discovered human remains in a freezer, at which point we backed out of the residence to secure a search warrant to go back in and retrieve all evidence properly,” said Chicago Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan.
Officials located Kolalou three miles away from the home on Foster Beach after the tow truck driver contacted them because Kolalou pulled a knife on him.
They also located some of Walker’s remains in a trash can while searching the area.
Officials reported that Kolalou is still refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
