Winter the Dolphin dies from infection

UPDATE: The star of the “Dolphin Tale” movies, Winter the dolphin, is dead.
Winter passed away Thursday night at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Florida.
She had been reportedly in critical condition from a gastrointestinal infection.
She died as she was being prepped for exploratory surgery for an intestinal blockage.
Winter was 16-years-old.

Winter the Dolphin who was the star of the movie “Dolphin Tale”, has been diagnosed with an infection that has only grown more serious.

According to her caretakers at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, they are trying to treat her for what was suspected to be gastrointestinal issues.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium officials said the test results on Wednesday showed despite treatment her intestinal abnormalities have intensified, making Winter’s condition critical.

Dr. Buddy Powell the President of Clearwater Marine Aquarium said intestinal issues are not uncommon in marine animals, but the cause of the infection is a mystery.

Doctors and specialists from around the country are working together to figure out how they can help Winter.

Dr. Powell has worked for more than 40 years to conserve manatees and other endangered species around the world through science and education.

According to her caretakers at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, they are trying to treat her for what was suspected to be gastrointestinal issues.

The aquarium has released a statement that they are closing for the week, to focus on vital care for Winter.
