
Officials in Escambia County have arrested a man who attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old girl as she waited for her school bus. The incident that was captured on surveillance video, occurred around 7:00 am on May 18th near Old Corry Field Road and Perdido Street. The video shows a male driving a white SUV stop his vehicle on the corner of the road before he gets out of the car and runs at the child. The child attempts to run away, however, the suspect grabs the her and attempts to drag her to his vehicle. During the struggle, the suspect fell to the ground which allowed the child to away. The suspect then fled to his vehicle and left the scene.
Officials say the suspect was identified as 30-year-old Jared Paula Stanga. Stanga reportedly has an extensive criminal history including sexual offenses with a child. He has since been charged with attempted kidnapping of a child under 13, aggravated assault and battery. Authorities also reported that the child told her principal a week before the incident that a man driving a white vehicle stopped to talk to her. It is unclear if Stanga was the same person.
