UPDATE: SpaceX making history again with the successful launch of the Crew Dragon capsule atop the company`s Falcon 9 rocket just moments ago from NASA`s Kennedy Space Center. Four astronauts from three countries embarked on the third-ever crewed flight for Elon Musk’s company, and the first from SpaceX to make use of a previously flown rocket booster and spacecraft. This is the first time SpaceX launches both a reused rocket and a reused capsule.
SpaceX making history again Friday as it prepares to ferry its third crew to the International Space Station aboard the Crew Dragon capsule that`ll launch atop the company`s Falcon 9 rocket.
Crew-2 is set for liftoff from NASA`s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 5:49 a.m. ET Friday and will mark the first time SpaceX launches both a reused rocket and a reused capsule.
The two Americans, one French and one Japanese astronaut climbed into Teslas for the ride to their rocket, all courtesy of Elon Musk’s companies. SpaceX is aiming for a split-second liftoff at 5:49 a.m., an hour before sunrise. Good weather is forecast.
Four astronauts from three countries will embark on the third-ever crewed flight for Elon Musk’s company, and the first from SpaceX to make use of a previously flown rocket booster and spacecraft.
The astronauts were supposed to fly to the International Space Station on Thursday. But liftoff was delayed because of poor weather offshore. SpaceX’s Dragon capsule requires calm waves and winds in case an emergency splashdown is needed on the climb to orbit.
The crew is fully vaccinated and on the International Space Station they`ll be conducting research on viruses to help understand the pandemic.
