Confessed Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz pleaded guilty to all 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in a Broward courtroom Wednesday morning.
The judge found Cruz competent to plead guilty…saying he appeared to be alert and intelligent.
Nikolas Cruz apologized to his victims over and over after pleading guilty to shooting up MSD high school in Parkland. Speaking to the courtroom, he said the mass shooting brings him nightmares.
Cruz asked the judge to give him a second chance so he could try to help others. He added that everyone should stop doing drugs due to the racism and violence it causes.
Cruz then told the victims, “I’m doing this for you” and “I love you.”
Manuel Oliver, who lost his son Joaquin in the MSD high school massacre in Parkland on Valentine’s Day 2018. He ways the guilty plea will not bring his son back.
After the plea, a jury will decide whether Cruz will face the death penalty or spend the rest of his life behind bars…the decision must be unanimous.
The move avoids trial and jumps to the sentencing phase, scheduled to start early next year. The 23-year-old is hoping for a life sentence but the death penalty is still on the table.
