(DELRAY BEACH, FLA) — Today marks the start of of King Tides which take place during full and new moons through November.
King tides cause street flooding in low lying communities. Sunny day flooding has only gotten worse with sea level rise.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis says the city has installed more than 185 tidal valves, 48 permanent pumps and strengthened seawalls to help prevent water from bubbling up into the streets.
About a dozen temporary pumps are available to be deployed if necessary.
