A 3-year-old boy is safe after a deputy rescued him from a house fire.
The fire occurred on Sunday at a home on the Palm Coast.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy First Class Marcus Dawson arrived at the scene and immediately sprung into action.
The deputy went into the burning home and began searching for anyone who may have been left inside the home. With the help of his K-9, Deputy located a child hiding under blankets and rushed the child out of the home:
“Without DFC Dawson immediately running toward danger, even without a safety respirator, this could have been a much different outcome,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement. “This child was hiding in fear of the fire and smoke watching a cartoon on his phone when, thankfully, DFC Dawson’s training in emergency response allowed him to find this child and safely rescue him. This was a dangerous situation, and we are very proud of DFC Dawson’s bravery and commitment to serving this community and saving a life.”
The child was treated at the scene and released.
According to the report, all three residents of the home are said to be safe and without injury.
Authorities believe the fire was accidental and possibly due to cooking.
