(BREVARD COUNTY, FLA) — People reportedly captured videos of snow drizzling down across Florida on Christmas morning.
Videos posted to social media show sleet raining from the sky onto the yards of Central Florida residents in Brevard County, according to Fox 35.
Snow fell in Central Florida for the first time in recorded history on Jan. 19, 1977.
Sleet occurs when snow partially melts through a layer of warm air and then refreezes through a layer of cold air before reaching the ground as frozen rain drops, according to the National Weather Service.
With a temperature of 32 degrees in Melbourne 7 .a.m. Sunday, Orlando housed the record-breaking fourth-coldest Christmas in recorded history, with ideal conditions for sleet to form.
Sleet was also reportedly scattered across Merritt Island, Rockledge, and Viera, according to the National Weather Service.
WPTV says temperatures are expected to gradually rise into the mid-70s before New Year’s weekend in West Palm Beach, with highs in the low 80s.
