VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL– The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect who stole an SUV with a sleeping baby inside and then dumped the baby on the side of a road.
The incident occurred Thursday in front of a home near Daytona Beach.
Authorities say the vehicle was stolen from a driveway after the child’s mother ran inside of a relative’s house to grab something.
While the mother was inside of the home, the suspect jumped into her vehicle and drove off.
A short time later, the suspect appeared to notice there was a child sleeping in the backseat of the vehicle and pulled over outside of a Holly Hill auto body shop and dropped the child off.
A good Samaritan located the child and contacted the police.
The child was said to have been unharmed and was reunited with his parents.
Officials are still searching for the suspect.
He is believed to be a “young male between the ages of 15 to 20 years old.” He was last seen wearing a black hoodie with red lettering on the front, black shorts, and a white hat.
