Urban Meyer has been fired after less than a year as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was signed to a six-year deal back in January reportedly worth upwards of $60 million.

Team owner Shad Khan released a statement late Wednesday night saying, “I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone.”
Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will serve as interim coach to finish out the season.

The Jags record currently stands at 2-11 with four games remaining in the season.

This was Meyer’s first opportunity as a head coach in the NFL after a college coaching career that included three national championships.

His exit follows a number of controversies in his short time with the team which include the now-infamous “lap dance” video where a younger woman was seen grinding herself on the lap of Meyer while he was at an Ohio bar that his wife owns, as well as the newly released accusations from the Jaguars kicker, Josh Lambo, that says Urban Meyer kicked him during a preseason practice back in August.

And in a bit of irony, this screenshot from a 2020 Fox college football pregame show is now going viral where Urban discussed his criteria for a struggling team.

It sure seems like he checked off all those boxes in Jacksonville, which may be why he is jobless today.
