Update: FBI joins investigation into murder of lesbian woman stabbed in Piedmont park while walking her dog

Atlanta Police continue to search for the suspect in the deadly stabbing of another woman in a park and suspect it might be the work of a serial killer.

Katherine Janness, 40, was walking her dog in the park Tuesday evening the night she was brutally murdered.

Police are trying to determine if the murder was a random or targeted because the killer spent time with her body after she died and investigators are not ruling out a serial killer because Janness is the second woman killed at an Atlanta area park in the past week.

According to Atlanta Police Department the FBI is assisting them in the case, however a spokesperson for the APD said they wouldn’t be providing any specifics abut the FBI involvement.

Janness was found by her partner of six years, Emma Clark, after Clark tracked her with her phone’s GPS. She worked as a bartender in Midtown Atlanta.

APD detectives are also asking those who live in this area to review footage from their security cameras and contact the police if they find anything pertinent to this investigation.

The timeframe for review should be between 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday to 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Atlanta Police are asking anyone with information to please come forward. Tipsters are eligible for a $10,000 reward and can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
