Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a surprise appearance at the 64th Grammy Awards.

In a pre-recorded speech, Zelensky pleaded to attendees and audiences at home to support Ukraine.

The video introduced John Legend’s debut performance of “Free,” which dropped earlier on Sunday. Legend was joined by Ukrainian singer Mika Newtown and poet Lyuba Yakimchuk.

Government officials and journalists on the ground have reported seeing hundreds of dead civilians in and around the capital city in towns from which Russian forces recently pulled back.
