U-Haul truck ‘intentionally’ rammed into barrier near White House

WASHINGTON– A 19-year-old driver from Missouri has been taken into custody after he “intentionally” drove a U-Haul truck into a barrier near the White House.

The incident occurred Monday evening in the 1600 block of H Street NW at  Lafayette Park. 

U.S. Park Police reported that their investigation found that the act was intentional.

Sai Varshith Kandula, of Chesterfield, Missouri, was taken into custody following the incident.  

“There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel,” U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.

CBS affiliate WUSA was at the scene and recorded as officials removed a Nazi flag from the vehicle, however, there was no mention of the flag in the report.

Kandula has been “charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, threatening to kill / kidnap / inflict harm on a president, vice president, or family member, destruction of federal property, and trespassing,” their press release states.
