(OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, FL)– Responding to reports of two men attempting to ‘coax several children’ into a van Friday morning, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office posted a community alert on their Facebook page and began searching for the suspect vehicle.
It appears to have been a case of mistaken identity.
At around 9:00 AM a citizen reported two men in a black Chrysler minivan had approached several different children and tried to “coax” them into the van by promising them a “ride to school.”
Deputies were eventually able to locate the van at which point the individual who made the initial report realized they knew the occupants and said they had no malicious intent.
The deputies were satisfied that there was no threat community and the community alert was cancelled by midafternoon.
No children were harmed and no inappropriate action occurred according to the sheriff’s office.
