JACKSONVILLE, FL–
Two corrections officers for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office have been charged with battery following an incident with an inmate that was caught on camera.
The incident occurred at the Duval County Jail on August 11, according to Undersheriff Nick Burgos.
Burgos reported that the two officers Olayemi Lipede and Micah Magwood were transporting an inmate when a physical confrontation occurred.
Investigators later found surveillance showing that the inmate was handcuffed and showing no resistance before both officers became physically violent with them.
Both officers were arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery.
Lipede was already on probation at the time of the incident and has since been fired.
The JSO is coordinating with State Attorney’s Office and working to also terminate Magwood.
