Lee County, FL — Two corrections officers have been arrested after allegations surfaced that they had been throwing hot water on inmates in their custody.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno announced the arrest of Casey Howell and Enzo Finamore of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Department on Wednesday.
Officials say they began investigating the officers after an inmate was found to be suffering from first and second-degree burns during a routine line up.
Authorities later learned that Howell and Finamore had been using a hot water dispenser to throw the hot water on the inmates.
Both officers have been fired and are facing battery and official misconduct charges.
“Sheriff Carmine Marceno demands accountability & professionalism. LCSO does not tolerate the disgusting & cruel actions of these correction officers,” Marceno tweeted. “Remedies have already been taken, & LCSO remains dedicated to changing policies.”
