Two first responders facing murder charges after strapping patient face down on gurney

SPRINGFIELD, Ill — Two first responders are facing murder charges after a patient died due to the way they transported the patient to the hospital.
Emergency medical services (EMS) were called to the home of 35-year-old Earl L. Moore Jr on Dec. 18. after 911 personnel determined that Moore was hallucinating and in medical distress.
LifeStar EMS employees Peter Cadigan and Peggy Finley, arrived that the scene to administer care and transport Moore to the hospital.
According to the report, the first responders placed Moore face down on the gurney and tightened the straps across his back to prevent him from moving.
They arrived at the hospital around 3:14 a.m. and Moore was said to have died in the emergency room.
An autopsy revealed that Moore’s cause of death was compressional and positional asphyxia face-down restraint on a paramedic transportation stretcher and the straps across his back.
Cadigan and Finley were taken into custody on Monday on first-degree murder charges. They are both being held at the Sangamon County Jail.
