
Richmond, VA– Two people are dead and five others were injured after a gunman opened fire outside of a high school graduation ceremony in Richmond on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during the conclusion of a ceremony for students of Huguenot High School at the Virginia Commonwealth University Altria Theater.
Authorities say an 18-year-old student and a 36-year-old man were fatally shot, and that five others were treated for gunshot wounds, both at the theater and at a park adjacent to the theater.
While authorities have not identified the victims, a mother identified them as her son Shawn Jackson, and her husband, Renzo Smith.
According to the report, Shawn had just graduated.
One of the two people initially taken into custody has been identified as the suspect.
Authorities reported that the gunman is 19 years old and is believed to have known at least one of the victims.
He will be charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
