Two men are dead after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and struck them as they were changing a tire.

The incident occurred on Sunday on Interstate 275 in Tampa.

Florida Highway Patrol say a 73-year-old man pulled over to the side of the road after his left front tire blew out.

The man then contacted his 30-year-old friend who showed up a little while later to help him with the tire.

As both of the men worked on the tire, a 36-year-old man suddenly drifted off of the side of the road and struck the men.

Officials say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
