UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol was able go reopen lanes of the Florida Turnpike before 9:00 Thursday morning after a fatal double rollover accident shut it down for hours.

A semi tractor trailer and a dump truck tangled on the turnpike early this morning southbound on the turnpike in Martin county.

As of 5 a.m. southbound lanes are still shutdown in Palm City from Martin Downs Blvd (SR-714) to Indiantown Rd stranding hundreds of drivers in the backups.

One person was killed in the crash. Both trucks rolled over and are lying on their sides. FHP says the scene will take hours to clear.
