House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is expected to meet with former President Donald Trump today in Florida.
This will be the California Republican’s first meeting with Trump since McCarthy said “the president bears responsibility” for the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
But McCarthy voted against impeaching Trump and has taken a softer line on the former president recently.
McCarthy, the Republican leader in the House, is also imploring other members of his party to stop fighting each other. Kevin McCarthy told colleagues on a conference call to focus on defeating the Biden agenda and, quote: “cut the crap out.”

Today’s meeting comes as Trump and his attorneys are working on his defense for the Senate impeachment trial that begins the second week of February.
