(WEST PALM BEACH, Florida)– Hurricane Nicole is fast approaching Florida’s east coast, and boaters are already starting to see the effects of the storm surge.
An unsecured sailboat was seen slamming against the seawall in the West Palm Beach Intracoastal Waterway, sparking concerns for other boats that might not be properly secured.
Our partners at WPTV spoke with Steven Reiner, a boat captain who lives in the area, who said that boat owners should take their boat out of the water, double line it, or double anchor it.
“There’s a lot of tension on the anchor line. If the winds pick up higher, that anchor line is probably going to snap and that boat will probably drift closer to the yacht club or the other boats.”, Reiner said.
Those who have boats in the water are urged to secure their watercraft before the hurricane makes landfall.
