Tropical Storm Bret strengthens to maximum sustained winds of 45 mph


The National Hurricane Center has issued its 5:00 p.m. advisory.
As of 5:00 pm, Tropical Storm Bret was moving toward the west near 18 mph with increased maximum sustained winds of nearly 45 mph and higher wind gusts.
While forecasters originally believed that the system would become a Hurricane by Friday, newer models no longer have the storm reaching hurricane strength.
Tropical Storm Bret is expected to move across portions of the Lesser Antilles Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, and then move across the eastern Caribbean Sea on Friday.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Barbados.
Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch
area by Thursday.
