Tropical Storm Bonnie expected to form as tropics heat up

Bonnie-6-28
National Hurricane Center

MIAMI- Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center expect the system currently off the coast of Venezuela to become Tropical Storm Bonnie, the second named storm of the 2022 hurricane season.

On its current westerly track, Bonnie will hug the northern coast of South America and possibly impact Nicaragua as a hurricane by Saturday.

It is the strongest of three active systems, one is tracking northwest towards the Leeward Islands and another is sitting off the coast of south Texas in the Gulf of Mexico.

Both systems have a moderate chance for development over the next five days but don’t pose any immediate threat to South Florida.
