New video shows the moment when a dolphin trainer was attacked by a dolphin during a show.
The incident occurred at the Miami Seaquarium on April 9th during the Seaquarium’s Dolphin Flipper Show.
Photographer Shannon Carpenter was in the audience at the time of the attack and posted the video on TikTok.
Another staff member used a paddledboard to get to the trainer and help her out of the water.
The trainer then made it to the edge but remained on her knees outside of the pool until the show was over.
Another witness told reporters that the trainer appeared to be shaken up but was able to walk away.
The Dolphin Company, who owns the aquarium has since released a statement saying that it was an accidental collusion between the dolphin and the trainer:
“A dolphin and trainer accidentally collided in the water on Saturday while performing a routine behavior as part of the Flipper Show. This was an uncomfortable interaction for both of them and the dolphin reacted by breaking away from the routine and striking the trainer. As a precaution, Miami-Dade County safety authorities were contacted. Our family extends to include the animals in our care, our team members and our guests. While there is no apparent serious injury, a careful watch and follow-up evaluations will ensure the best care for all.”
