
UPDATE: Officials in Martin County still don’t know what caused a Florida East Coast Railway cargo train to derail yesterday afternoon in Jensen Beach.
The train was reportedly carrying limestone, but most of the five derailed cars were empty, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to FEC, the road reopened later in the evening after the derailed cars were removed.
There were no reports of injuries or hazardous material concerns.
JENSEN BEACH- A Florida East Coast Railroad train partially derailed Thursday afternoon, shutting down Jensen Beach Blvd. at the roundabout on Pineapple Ave.
Five cars from the freight train went off the rails, however company officials say the cars were empty at the time.
The train was reportedly hauling limestone.
Drivers in the area can use County Line Road or Dixie Highway to get around the train until the railway is cleared.
No injuries were reported.
