DESTIN, FL– A 22-year-old woman was seriously injured after she fell off of a boat and got caught between it’s spinning propellers.
The incident occurred in the Intracoastal Waterway, just west of Crab Island on Monday.
Officials say the woman was sitting on the bow of a pontoon boat with her feet in the water when the boat hit a wave.
The motion pulled the woman under the boat where she struck the propeller.
The woman then reappeared at the back of the boat with “multiple very deep lacerations to her arm,” witnesses said.
“OCSO Marine units arrived and applied a tourniquet for the severe bleeding, helping with her treatment until Okaloosa Emergency Medical Services … arrived,” the sheriff’s office said.
The woman’s identity has not been released, and it is unclear what condition she is in.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.
