A 13-year-old girl is now in the ICU after she attempted to do a viral TikToc challenge.
The incident was reported at her home in Portland, Oregon on May 14th.
The teen’s sister Andrea, told reporters that she believes her sister Destini Crane was attempting to recreate a video where a man sprayed hairspray onto a mirror and then set the mirror on fire.
“There was a capped bottle of alcohol sitting on the counter, and the whole side of it had busted open, and there was a lighter and broken candle,” Andrea said. “So, that’s just kind of the conclusion we came to.”
Andrea says a friend was over at the time and she was the one who alerted them to the incident.
Her friend was yelling, “she was filming TikToks, she was filming TikToks,” Andrea said.
Destini was rushed to an area hospital with severe burns on her neck and arm. She is currently in the intensive care unit where she had a tracheotomy on her first day, and is in the process of getting skin grafts on her neck and arm.
Portland Fire and Rescue officials are still investigating the case and are advising other’s to think before they take on any of these challenges:
“You’re not only putting yourself in danger; you’re putting your entire family and anybody who is in that building in danger,” Firefighter Rob Garrison said.
