WELLINGTON, FL– A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after he set off fireworks inside of the Mall at Wellington Green and caused shoppers to panic Saturday afternoon. 

According to the report, several shoppers and employees believed the fireworks were gunfire. 

Several entities of the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene including the bomb squad. 

After a three-hour investigation, officials determined the sound was fireworks that had been set off in the men’s restroom. 

Officials were also able to pinpoint who set off the fireworks. 

The teen was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center after being interviewed by deputies according to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera.

The teen faces a charge of felony criminal mischief.
