(WEST PALM BEACH, Florida)– A 79-year-old woman was attacked while taking her groceries home.
Surveillance video captured the moment when the woman was attacked by a 17-year-old boy, while she was walking down Tamarind Avenue just before 7 p.m. on Sept. 8.
The attack left the woman motionless on the ground, for eight minutes with no way to get up, according to police spokesman Mike Jachles.
The surveillance video showed the suspect overtaking the victim from behind and grabbing her grocery cart, which held her purse.
Despite the victim’s attempt to hold onto her property, she was thrown to the asphalt and the suspect was able to flee the scene with the cart.
Investigators were able to track the teen down and arrest him after identifying him in the video.
The unnamed teen was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center and was booked on charges of robbery without a firearm and aggravated battery on a person 65 years or older after confessing to the crime to detectives.
