FORT PIERCE- Nearly four years after a fiery DUI crash left five people dead, 24 year old Tanner Dashner was sentenced to 72 years behind bars.

Dashner expressed remorse to the families of the victims at his sentencing hearing on Tuesday according to our partners at WPTV.

“I regret the poor decisions I’ve made and am sorry to all the families that I have devastated because of this terrible accident,” he said during the hearing.

The crash occurred on Nov. 23, 2018 near South 25th Street and Midway Road in Fort Pierce and police later determined Dashner was intoxicated at the time.

The victims ranged in age from 16 to 27.

Prosecutors were seeking a life sentence.
