THURSDAY 8:30 P.M. UPDATE:
A 21-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon following the SWAT situation at a home near SW 6th Street and SW 5th Avenue in Delray Beach.
Officers arrested Darien Spencer-Morrison on two counts of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in public.
Boynton Beach Police say the situation began at the Homing Inn on South Federal Highway.
They were called to the motel for reports of a shooting at 12:09 p.m.. They found two men with gunshot wounds, according to an arrest report.
One of the victims was taken to Delray Medical Center as a trauma alert, the other person identified Spencer-Morrison as the shooter.
Security camera footage showed the suspect vehicle drive to the motel at 11:53 a.m. and circle around the parking lot several times before opening fire pm the victims when they arrived, the arrest report states.
The driver then fled south on South Federal Highway. The vehicle’s tag was registered to Spencer-Morrison.
The second victim told officers he believed that he was the intended target because his friend has had an ongoing feud with Spencer-Morrison. About two months ago, the victim said Spencer-Morrison shot at his friend in Delray Beach. That led the victim’s friend to retaliate by shooting at Spencer-Morrison a week ago.
Delray Beach Police later found Spencer-Morrison in the same vehicle used in the shooting at his home on SW 6th Avenue around 12:30 p.m.
They ordered him to come out of the home, and he refused. As officers began to mobilize the SWAT team, Spencer-Morrison surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
During a search, police found several expended 9mm shell casings in his car. They also found an orange shirt matching the one he was wearing before the shooting happened inside the home.
Spencer-Morrison was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
There is an active SWAT situation in Delray Beach, according to authorities.
Police say officers are attempting to get a man out of a home near SW 6th Street and SW 5th Avenue.
No word yet on what started the incident. However, a spokesman for Delray Beach Police says the matter started in Boynton Beach.
This is a developing story.
