Suspect on the run after shooting waitress

Officials in Ohio are currently searching for a suspect who opened fire inside of a restaurant, killing a waitress.

The incident was reported at a Bob Evans Restaurant at 3400 Lesh Street Northeast in Canton on Friday.

Authorities say around 9:30 a.m. the suspect entered the restaurant and targeted 38-year-old Rebecca Jean Rogers.

According to the report, when Rogers noticed the suspect had a gun, she attempted to flee the restaurant down a hallway but was still struck by gunfire.

Rogers was taken to Mercy Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

The suspect has since been identified as 54-year-old Richard James Nelson.

Police are calling the situation a “domestic incident” between a girlfriend and a boyfriend.

Nelson is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if encountered.
