HOLLYWOOD, FL — Police arrested a man who was dressed in a Spider-Man costume after he reportedly attacked and robbed a woman.
The incident occurred on Federal Highway near Dixianna Street on Monday.
Officials say the victim saw 36-year-old Lequan Steven Payne dressed as Spider-Man and stopped to take pictures with him. She then encountered the suspect later in the day and that’s when he reportedly struck her with a blunt object and robbed her of $45.
Authorities were able to easily track down the suspect because he remained in the area and was still dressed in the Spider-Man outfit.
Officials say they were able to take Payne into custody after a short shouting match.
During a court hearing on Tuesday, Payne claimed that he did not rob the woman:
“Like not making major money, but I’ve been good enough to support myself to not going out and stealing and none of that stuff,” he said.
He has since been charged with one count of robbery and resisting without violence.
He is being held at the Broward County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
