Miami, FL– Authorities have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a well-known business owner in Liberty City on Tuesday.
Ferris Phillips II was located in Fort Lauderdale and taken into custody Wednesday for the shooting of 47-year-old Nader Aweidah, also known as “Bubba.”
City of Miami Police say they responded to Perfect Paint & Body Shop at 7455 NW 7th Avenue after receiving a Shotspotter report and arrived to find the owner dead from a gunshot wound.
Several employees reported that they attempted to carry Aweidah out of the office to get him to the hospital after the shooting but it was too late.
Aweidah was pronounced dead at the scene.
Because the gunman was located in Fort Lauderdale, he was taken to the Broward County Jail. Authorities say Phillips will eventually be transferred to Miami-Dade County to face a first-degree murder with a firearm charge.
A motive for the shooting has not been released.
