Suspect arrested after frantically hitting gunman with car in Lake Worth

A 25-year-old man is behind bars after a crash that left one person dead Saturday morning, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Brandon Cowins is being charged with first-degree murder.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire or Urquhart Street near Cross Street just after 11 a.m.. according to the sheriff’s office.

When they arrived, they found a car crashed into a home and a man dead.

Further investigation revealed the unidentified deceased man had fired several shots in the neighborhood before leaving the area, the sheriff’s office.

No one was struck by gunfire.

Cowins became very upset, fearing his family was in danger and followed the man, according to the sheriff’s office.

When Cowins caught up to the man, he intentionally hit him with the car. then lost control and hit a home on Sanders Drive near Geraldine Lane.

Cowins was arrested and taken to the Palm Beach County Jail, where he’s being held without bond.
