Surfside death toll climbs to 79

On day 16 of the Surfside Condo collapse, authorities are reporting that the death toll has risen to 79.

14 bodies were recovered overnight, while one body was recovered on Friday.

“The magnitude of this tragedy is growing each and every day,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “It’s an aching hole in the center of this close-knit family here in Surfside, a beautiful, small, close-knit community.”

Officials have been working day-in and day-out to recover and identify the victims of the collapse.

As of now, 200 people have been accounted, while 63 remain missing.
