Storms lead to tornado touchdown near Vero Beach

(VERO BEACH, FL)– The National Weather Service in Melbourne confirmed an EF0 tornado touched down on the Treasure Coast Monday evening.

A strong thunderstorm in the area of US-1 and Highland Drive spawned a twister which struck the Midway Estates mobile home community at around 7:00 PM.

Several homes suffered damage, at least one family was displaced, and power outages were reported in the area.

No injuries were reported.

An EF0 tornado has winds of between 65 and 85 MPH.

Officials estimate the tornado was on the ground for about 3 minutes and travelled a distance of half a mile before dissipating.

Two tornado warnings were issued by the NWS on Monday due to severe weather in the area.

Last month, an EF2 tornado caused major damages to the Kings Point community in Delray Beach.
