STOCK ISLAND, FL– A St. Petersburg woman is presumed dead following a yacht fire that occurred at a dock in the Florida Keys overnight.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the fire occurred on a 70-foot Viking yacht that was docked outside the Perry Hotel and Marina on Stock Island.
Authorities say the family of three was in town for lobster mini-season and were on the yacht that evening with a family of four.
The family of four was said to have escaped unharmed.
Two men from the St. Petersburg family, ages 21 and 58, were airlifted to a hospital in Miami-Dade County. A 51-year-old woman who was also said to have been on the yacht has not been located and is presumed dead.
Both MCSO divers and TowBoatUS crews searched the yacht for the woman where it eventually sank near the dock.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
