US Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has just landed safely in Taiwan amid threat from China.

China has repeatedly issued warnings about Pelosi’s potential trip to Taiwan, with President Xi Jinping telling President Biden last week “whoever plays with fire will get burned.”

The California Democrat’s trip has been cloaked in secrecy after China repeatedly issuing warnings about a trip to Taiwan including threatening to shoot Pelosi’s plane down.

Yesterday, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby accused China of overreacting and ratcheting-up tensions with the U.S. China still considers the self-governing island a part of Chinese territory.

Earlier Tuesday, Pelosi held meetings in Malaysia as part of her tour through Asia. Pelosi is the first House Speaker to set foot in Taiwan since Newt Gingrich in 1997.
