(LAKE WORTH BEACH, Florida)– Tropical storm Ian’s path is uncertain. Still, according to all the forecast models, it will make landfall on the western coast of Florida, and flooding could potentially be a significant problem.
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is closely monitoring the coming storm and preparing to mitigate the flooding by releasing water from the canals to make room for the potential rainfall.
Residents of the areas to be impacted are also asked to help by looking out for any problems that could lead to flooding.
Drew Bartlett, executive director of the SFWMD, said, “If you see loose debris anywhere that can blow into the storm drain, move it to a secure location so it won’t do that,”
SFWMD is encouraging all local governments and local drainage operators to proactively monitor the storm and prepare their systems.
