(HIALEAH, FL)– A 5th grader has been taken into police custody after he brought a gun to school in his book bag.
The incident occurred on Monday at Amelia Earhart Elementary School in Hialeah.
Authorities say they were notified about the incident after several students in a 5th-grade classroom reported that one of their classmates brought a gun and was showing it off to everyone.
Once staff were told about the incident, the principal was called in to search the student’s bookbags:
“He was showing it to everybody, and then he was crying because he left it in his book bag when the principal came to search our book bags,” a student told reporters.
According to the report, the student is expected to face charges.
