Shocking video: Accused Parkland school shooter attacks jail officer

Nine months after the deadly shooting spree at MSD High School in Parkland that left 17 dead, video shows the moment the accused shooter, Nikolas Cruz, attacks an officer at the Broward County Jail in 2018.

Cruz, who is charged with 17 counts of first-degree murder and is facing the death penalty, is seen pacing around circles in the jail cafeteria, according to footage posted on YouTube by Law & Crime.

Then, Cruz is seen speaking to and flipping off a guard, identified as Sgt. Raymond Beltran, who is sitting in the corner of the cafeteria.

The Nov. 13, 2018, video has no audio, but shows accused killer lunging at the Beltran and wrestling him to the ground while throwing punches.

Beltran ultimately slugs Cruz, who walks to the other side of the room and lays face-down on the ground after the guard pulls out a stun gun, the footage shows.

Prosecutors showed the video in court Wednesday as Cruz sat shackled quietly throughout the 30-minute court appearance.

It was his first in-person court appearance since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
