
A registered sex offender who opened fire on a Florida deputy has been killed in a shoot out with a homeowner.
The incident occurred on Tuesday in Taylor County, Florida.
Authorities say 33-year-old Gregory Ryan Miedema was pulled over by Deputy Troy Anderson around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
During the traffic stop, Miedema reportedly fired on Deputy Anderson at least three times before fleeing the scene.
The deputy was flown to an area hospital for treatment.
Miedema then reportedly broke into a home near Dixie County around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, where he engaged in a gunfight with the homeowner.
Miedema was then shot and killed by the homeowner.
After the homeowner contacted police, the Blue alert against Miedema was canceled.
According to reports, Miedema was convicted of sexual assault and possession of child pornography in 2011 while he served in the U.S army.
He was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison followed by two months of probation.
