A 34-year-old man has been arrested after he struck an Indian River County patrol vehicle and then tried to flee the scene. According to the report, the incident occurred at the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and 8th Street, Sunday around 6:00 a.m. The sergeant says he noticed the vehicle a few houses down from the intersection where he parked. Suddenly the vehicle began moving towards him. “I looked up, and the next thing I know, I see a car coming right at me, and he’s going at a pretty good speed,” Sgt. Mike Pierce of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said. The incident was caught on camera.

The suspect identified as Alex McKinny, then backed up and drove around the sergeant but was arrested a short time later. McKinny is now facing a misdemeanor DUI charge. He has since been released on bond. Despite the incident, the sergeant was not harmed and says he is glad that no one else was either.
